The Art of questioning, master this art for successful life

A child ask so many questions in a day, and that is how a child learns. We all should learn the Art of Questioning from a child. We learn from asking only.

It has happened n number of times to me in the past. My brain has had a question, but I have always stopped it from slipping out, thinking I would make a fool out of myself. Only later would I realize that somebody else asked a similar question. And were applauded for asking such a great question! Do you relate to this situation. Then you need to understand the art of questioning.

The art and science of asking questions is the source of all knowledge. Thomas Berger

What makes us human, I think, is an ability to ask questions, a consequence of our sophisticated spoken language. — Jane Goodall

Interesting fact on art of questioning:

At the age of four, children ask over 400 questions a day. Between the ages of two and five, the average child will have asked about 40,000 “why” questions, simply because they do not know.
As we age, apparently we do. By the time, we reach 44, adults only ask around six questions/day, mainly because we think either we know or are afraid of admitting that we do not.

Some one liners on Art of questioning:

  • Millions saw the apple fall, but Newton asked why. And rest is the history.
  • We don’t know what we don’t know, and won’t know unless we ask questions.
  • The people who do not ask questions remain clueless throughout their lives.
  • It is fine to be a fool for a minute by asking a question then to be a fool for life time by not asking.
  • Knowing the answers will help you in school. Knowing how to question will help you in life.

Now we have understood the importance of asking questions let us discuss the few wonderful benefits of asking questions

Benefits of asking question:

  1. We learn about life:
We all see a child asking so many questions in a day that is how a child learns about everything. This is the best method for learning, which we all stop applying when we grow up.
  2. It will keep you humble:
It reminds you that you do not know everything, and that is perfectly fine. As there are gaps in your knowledge, which you are filling up.
  3. It improves quality of our life:
The quality of our lives is directly related to the quality of our thinking. “The quality of our thinking, in turn, is determined by the quality of our questions.
  4. It also prevents self-satisfaction:
It signals a thirst for new data and an unwillingness to be content with the current status quo.
  5. Questioning makes you more open:
Your mind start working logically and it gives information already stored in the brain once you start asking questions.
  6. You understand people better:
Most people love to answer questions about themselves.  We’re all hungry to be understood, not just because we want to get our way but because we want to feel important.
  7. It improves your decision-making ability:
as asking questions will give you all types of perspective for the situation in hand.
  8. It will give you happiness:
as asking right and logical question will make you happy and satisfied.

Analysis so far:

So now you must be thinking that I will give you some tips for asking wonderful questions or to improve your art of questioning. NO, I am not going to give you any such tips as I believe there are no tips as such.
There cannot be a short cut for practice and perseverance. So to ask wonderful questions we need to practice asking questions. and with continuous practice and habit of asking questions we will improve the quality of our questions.

In the next post we will analyze why people do not ask questions, what are the reasons and the possible solutions.

Good relationships with close family members, friends or others are important. Accepting help and support from those who care about you and will listen to you strengthens resilience. Moreover, this gives a sense of feeling that we have people whom we can discuss our problems.

2. Do not see crisis as undefeatable problems:

You cannot change the fact that highly stressful events happen. However, you can change how you interpret and respond to these events. Try looking beyond the present to how future circumstances may be a little better.
In addition, note down any subtle ways in which you might already feel somewhat better as you deal with difficult situations.

3. Take crucial actions:

Act on adverse situations as much as you can. Take decisive actions, rather than detaching completely from problems and stresses and wishing they would just go away. So, you need to remeber this

Always remember, the outside environment is same for all, what makes us different is what lies inside us.

4. Keep things in perspective:

Even when facing very painful events, try to consider the stressful situation in a broader context and keep a long-term perspective. Avoid blowing the event out of proportion.

Moreover, focusing on the strengths gives you power. And remembering a situation which you conquered last time helps you in improving your resilience and give you strength to fight the current situation.

8. Build Goals to Build Resilience:

Having a sense of where you are going in life is important. Therefore, set some realistic Goals and regularly work towards them. Setback will happen but resilient people keep the destination in mind and always work toward reaching the destination.

9. Look for opportunities to know yourself:

Learn to overcome failure first, if you want SUCCESS

It is true that you can learn much more from failure than from success. Learn to overcome failure and Success is guaranteed. Let us discuss the ways.

It is true that you can learn much more from failure than from success, and it is true that every successful person went through a series of failures before reaching the top. The thing which is important here is not success, what is important is overcoming failure. So today let us learn to overcome failure.

The truth is that failure is never the end of the road. It is simply an indicator that there are some parts of ourselves and our lives that we need to put more effort into in order to get the results that we desire.

Story of Caterpillar:

A biology teacher was teaching his students how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly. He told the students that in the next couple of hours, the butterfly would struggle to come out of the cocoon. But no one should help the butterfly. Then he left.

The students were waiting and it happened. The butterfly struggled to get out of the cocoon, and one of the students took pity on it and decided to help the butterfly out of the cocoon against the advice of his teacher. He broke the cocoon to help the butterfly so it didn’t have to struggle anymore. But shortly afterwards the butterfly died.

When the teacher returned, he was told what happened. He explained to this student that by helping the butterfly, he had actually killed it because it is a law of nature that the struggle to come out of the cocoon actually helps develop and strengthen its wings. The boy had deprived the butterfly of its struggle and the butterfly died.

NOTHING WORTHWHILE EVER COMES WITHOUT A STRUGGLE.

“Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly.”

“There is no such thing called failure, there are always outcome or result.”

Learn to overcome Failure:

“Don’t ever let someone tell you that you can’t do something. you have got a dream, you gotta protect it. when people can’t do something themselves they are going to tell you that you can’t do it. you want something. go get it.”

“Be like a postage stamp, stick to a thing till you get there.”

1. Acknowledge the failure and Embrace your Emotions:

It is important to acknowledge failure in your life when it happens. Failure is accompanied by a variety of emotions; embarrassment, anxiety, anger, sadness, and shame to name a few. Those feelings are uncomfortable and many people will do anything they can to escape feeling emotional discomfort.

However, allowing yourself to feel bad is motivating. It can help you work harder to find better solutions so that you will improve next time. This will help you to identify what it is you need to focus on, so that you can approach the situation in a new way for success in the future.

2. View Failure as Learning Opportunity:

“As far as you are learning from your failure or mistakes, they are not failure or mistakes.”

Shift your perspective and view failure as an opportunity to grow and learn. Once you see failure as learning opportunity, you can then begin to approach it with a different mindset; a mindset that will help you to quickly transform your actions into ones that lead to success.

3. Accept an Appropriate Level of Responsibility:

Accepting a correct level of responsibility for your failure will help you in learning from the failure and this experience will help you to gain future success. On the other hand, blaming other people or unfortunate circumstances for your failure will prevent you from learning from it.

4. Create a plan and Learn how to overcome failure:

Replaying your failure in your mind repeatedly will not do you any good. Therefore do not allow yourself to ponder on all the things that went wrong. Dwelling on your problems or repeating your mistakes will keep you stuck.

Instead, think about what you will do differently next time. Create a plan that will help you put the information you gained from failing into practice.

5. Find inspiration and Support:

A conversation with your near and dear ones is very helpful. In addition, You can read Books, motivation articles or watch inspirational Videos.

This may not be specifically about your current challenge but can help you to shift your mood and mindset back towards optimism again.
